Being part of the Finance Committee is a great place to learn about the goings on of your Friends group from the financial perspective.
Once a year, the chair of the Finance Committee should pull out all the financial policies and procedures and dedicate one meeting to review the policies with the members of the committee. Then upon and changes and recommendations of the committee, record them into the minutes of the organization.
I understand that the Finance Committee could be a committee of one or two and there may be many items to do, though I strongly suggest that it is done. Why you may ask? Simply time marches on, certain real life events change and the policies of the organization become outdated. Once that is the case, and members change and memories fade, it becomes a big task by the new folks that become involved to get up to speed.
Remember to keep reasonable records and you and your organization will be rewarded by the compounding of the good work that was done in the past. That work will make going forward a great success to your Friends group.
